In the U.S. of A tampering with the emissions control devices of any vehicle operated on public roads is illegal in every state and at the federal level. (U.S. EPA) Civil penalties range from $2,500 per offense for individuals, and up to $25,000 per offense for manufacturers and/or dealers. If you sell a vehicle to an individual that has had the emissions control system tampered with, one could potentially be liable for repairs to bring back in to compliance or to refund the purchase price. As an old "muscle car" enthusiast, I must say that modern computer emission controlled engines are far superior. The old engines were dirty, unreliable and inefficient. Clean air is a right that all Americans are entitled to. You can get incredible power outputs and remain legal for street use. If everyone took the selfish and childish attitude that "the law doesn't apply to me" the air quality in our metropolitan areas would be terrible. I note that you are located outside the U.S. For those of you that condone emissions tampering for street use, I would think twice before posting my name; After all, if you were a bank-robber would you go on public bulletin board and discuss the details of your most recent heist? :)
